Robert Wininger passes away, was District 1 director
Robert C. Wininger, a former director of the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation, died June 8.
Mr. Wininger, who was 88, served on the VFBF board from 1981 to 1987, representing producer members in Buchanan, Dickenson, Lee, Russell, Scott, Tazewell and Wise counties. He also was a past president and board member of the Scott County Farm Bureau.
The lifelong farmer served on the Scott County Board of Supervisors for more than 10 years and served on the State Water Control Board for more than 12 years. He was a charter member of the Scott County Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Wininger was appointed by Rep. Rick Boucher, D-9th, to the National Silver Haired Congress representing Virginia’s 9th Congressional District.
He retired from the Tennessee Eastman Co. in 1977 with 35 years of service. He served in the Army in World War II and received five Battle Stars.
Mr. Wininger is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two sisters.
