Virginia Farm Bureau Federation®

Virginia Farm Bureau Federation (VFBF) is the largest nonprofit agricultural advocacy organization in Virginia. It was founded in 1926 to support the agricultural interests of Farm Bureau members through a variety of programs and services. It is a non-governmental, nonpartisan, voluntary organization committed to protecting Virginia's farms. Virginia Farm Bureau Federation is part of the 6-million-member American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF).

Vision

Virginia Farm Bureau's vision is to create an environment where agriculture can prosper to improve the lives of Virginians.

Over 100 local Virginia offices

VFBF has a presence in both large and small communities across Virginia.

Rooted in your community.

About a fourth of VFBF members are farmers. Farm Bureau provides a variety of benefits for those members, including legislative lobbying, leadership development programs, agricultural supplies and marketing, and insurance products. It also provides every member with discounts on hotels, prescriptions, tires and more.

Farm Bureau's lobbying efforts are based on grassroots involvement by producer members, and the organization has an 85% or better success rate on the number of policy issues addressed. Some recent successes include:

  • Passage of a constitutional amendment that protects landowners from eminent domain abuse.
  • Defeat of the Chesapeake Bay Clean Water and Ecosystem Restoration Act, which overestimated farming's impact on the bay.
  • Increased funding amounts for Virginia's agricultural best management practices cost-share program to fund conservation practices on farms.

Farm Bureau also supports agricultural education through its Agriculture in the Classroom program. Since its inception in 1987, AITC has reached over 4.5 million Virginia students and provided free training and resources to more than 430,000 educators. It continues to connect over 500,000 children with information about agriculture annually.
